Doubly wrapped in luxurious corduroy

For all the adventurous, challenging loops in the world, nothing says “it was good day” quite like putting a happy child to bed without complaint. Today was that sort of day for me. A short loop in the morning, signifying the true beginning of my “taper” over the last 10 days of this training cycle. The fact that it was an old favorite through U-Dub’s campus added some extra sugar to an otherwise short and sweet route. That was followed by a day full of tying up loose ends connected to even more loose ends that I’d prefer not be dangling when I head back to Sconnie on Saturday. And then an evening spent sharing with Maya some post-soccer class pizza and a few episodes of PBS’s decidedly hard to categorize new series “The Cat in the Hat”. Followed with a chaser of some “sight words” homework and the whole bedtime routine. By far the most entertaining personal moment was when I was packing up a few things while Maya brushed teeth and she noticed I’d slipped on my old favorite corduroy sport coat that I’m bringing back to give to my younger brother. I now hangs on me like a sack. Maya burst out laughing. I confessed that it fit me well before I started running. “You really were fat!” Maya said, through a jiggling blanket of laughter. I like to think that laughing fit tired her out a bit faster, requiring even less bedtime chatter than usual. So the tertiary benefits continue to be seen.
